Roberta Okereke graduated from Napier University with a degree in Business Studies with HR Management. She is choosing where to specialise after she has completed her first year.
‘I wasn’t really looking to join a particular industry when I graduated. My degree meant I could pretty much work anywhere, so I was more interested in making sure employers were the right culture fit for me. Barratt looked good right from the start. The interview process was thorough without being exhaustive. Once I’d completed the Assessment, I was called the next day with a job offer – how’s that for organised and efficient?
‘Of course, I thought to myself, ‘Why would a construction company want me?’. But they made it really clear that they wanted problem-solvers and commercial thinkers, not necessarily people with building qualifications. Then, once I’d been to the Induction Event, I knew this was the place for me. Everyone was warm and welcoming, it was relaxed and informal. Mind you, that’s not to say they don’t expect you to work hard! On my first day in the Land department, I visited five different sites, helping to assess whether they were suitable for acquisition.’
